Decoding Lubricant Shelf Life vs. Service Life

  In our daily communications with customers, we often encounter the same question: "Your grease specification states a shelf life of 3 years for the grease, but the warranty period for my equipment is 5 years. Does this mean your grease cannot meet the requirement?

  This is a common and important point of discussion, and it highlights a key distinction in lubrication terminology that is crucial for optimal equipment performance.

  The 3-year shelf life stated on our product datasheet refers to the recommended maximum storage time for the grease in its original, unopened container under proper conditions. It is a guarantee of the product’s chemical and physical stability before use. This period is determined by standard industry practices to ensure performance as formulated when it leaves our factory.

  However, this data does not directly correlate with how long the grease or lubricant will effectively lubricate inside your operating equipment. The actual service life of the grease in your application is determined by a completely different set of dynamic factors, primarily your operating conditions:

  ● Equipment Load & Speed

  ● Operating Temperature

  ● The structure of the equipment & materials

  ● Exposure to Contaminants (e.g., water, dust)

  ● The Re-lubrication Cycle of your equipment

  To address client’s specific concern: A device with a 5-year warranty or service interval is engineered with the expectation that its lubricant will be maintained or replaced according to a prescribed schedule. Our grease is formulated to meet or exceed the performance requirements (such as oxidation stability, mechanical stability, and wear protection) necessary for such long-term applications.

In practical terms：

  The 3-year shelf life is not a limitation. Once the grease is correctly applied to your equipment, its functional lifespan is "reset" and begins its service life clock. As long as the grease is applied within its shelf life and the equipment operates within specified conditions, our product is fully capable of supporting the intended maintenance interval, which can often extend well beyond 5 years in well-maintained systems.
